Brandon Gien
Brandon Gien: I think maybe 5 or 10 years ago, there is very big difference. At last 5 years or 3 years, the gap in thedifference is certainly closed, and there is very little difference now. Thedesign that’s been access here is of world-class; there are really good qualitydesign, and good quality products. The way that the judges are accessingproducts here, the methodology used, the evaluation criteria can be applied anywherein the world. It’s actually very professional done and I’m very impressed.
Brandon Gien:
Brandon Gien: That’s a lot to look at here, lotsof diversity. For me, the products that really impress me are the ones solvinga problem, not creating another problem. That’s really interesting when youthink about that. That’s how I was look at the products thing, which one issolving a really problem. It could be a problem for the years for the consumer. There is a particular product here called “drinkablebook” to filter water. That’s a big problem all over the world .Drinking water isa big challenge and that’s just a clever way of doing that. I really love thatproduct. I think it’s top class, because it’s solving a problem that isuniversal to everyone.
Brandon Gien: Technology is changingso very rapidly. Every day we wake up tomorrow morning, technology would bedifferent again. I think design is going to play a very big role. It’s been alot more careful about the product we are producing, a long sight technology. Sowe don’t want to see more plastic, more rubbish, more waste and more pollution. We want able to be the designers that design products that actually makevery big difference to our lives, rather than creating more problems. So Ithink the future of design is really gonna be much more human-centered, reallyunderstanding. But designers can play a big role in solving some of these bigchallenges in the world. We all need beautiful products, we are all consumers, andwe all use and buy products we see here. But I think design is going to be elevatedhigher and higher and higher. That’s why I love the name “Design IntelligentAward”. It’s a good name. It means we need to be more intelligent as humanbeings in the way we design products, in the way that we consume products aswell.
Brandon Gien: We have youngergeneration of people growing up who are going to be very conscious of the worldaround them. They have technology that allows them to access news from all overthe world. So the younger generations are going to be more intelligent as theygrow older. They are going to also be very picky about sort of products theywere use. I think that’s why designer works is very important because they toldthe consumers, they told the world outside there, this is good design, this isbad design.
Brandon Gien:
