As 2024 has arrived, Neri&Hu would like to share with you some of the work we have done in the past year. We forge ahead, counting our blessings as we complete a number of significant projects, and look forward to the future together.

项目 Project

曲江艺术博物馆扩建，西安

Qujiang Museum of Fine Arts Extension, Xi'an

曲江艺术博物馆位于西安大雁塔的南侧。扩建项目以“城市纪念建筑物”为设计概念的起始，成为了城市肌理和社会历史的具象缩影。

The Qujiang Museum of Fine Arts is located at south of the famed Giant Wild Goose Pagoda in Xi'an. The project takes the idea of a monolithic urban monument as the concept to serve as a durable symbol of social history for the surrounding urban fabric.

三亚疗养度假酒店，三亚

Sanya Wellness Retreat, Sanya

三亚疗养度假酒店位于风光旖旎的海南岛海棠湾。酒店的设计灵感来源于东方“城池”的意象，主体由两部分构成——作为客房的“木屋”建于公共空间的“砖石基座”之上。

The Sanya Wellness Retreat is located in Haitang Bay on Hainan Island. Neri&Hu's design is inspired by the ancient Chinese walled city, elevated on a heavy plinth, it is usually surrounded by water for protection.

芝山住宅，台北

Zhishan Residence, Taipei

芝山住宅项目位于台北市芝山，远离繁忙的商业中心，居民得以在此享受慢节奏的生活。如恩在设计中追寻芝山的历史脉络，以构造形式和触觉材料，试图在这一精品住宅项目中追寻一种永恒的美学。

Zhishan Residence is located in Taipei Zhishan, where residents could enjoy a slow-living lifestyle that is removed from the bustle of more commercial areas in the city. In this context, Neri&Hu's design intent for a high-end residential building was to embody a timeless aesthetic through the use of tectonic forms and tactile materials.

如恩为Piaget伯爵在香港广东道的新旗舰店进行了立面设计。这座点缀了宝石般的城市纪念物，从九龙区深厚悠久的历史建筑背景中汲取精华，为当地居民带来了更多对城市纪念意义的期许。

Neri&Hu's design for Piaget's new storefront draws on the wealth of historic architecture in Kowloon, celebrating the storefront as a jeweled urban monument to bring a new monumental presence and civic potency.

锐驰嘉兴厂房建筑概念设计，嘉兴

Camerich Jiaxing Factory Architectural Concept Design, Jiaxing

在后工业化世界的背景下，如恩为锐驰设计的未来厂房反思了“厂房”这一建筑形态的本质，及其在全球化语境中的制造能力，是一座建立在当地自然、历史和文化背景下的田园纪念碑。

In a post-industrial world today, Neri&Hu reflects on the very nature of a factory, its manufacturing capacity in a globally connected world, and the impact of research and innovation on society at large. Rather than concealing its contents within a non-descript shell, the factory is a Pastoral Monument set against this natural, historical and cultural backdrop.

前滩31文化演艺中心坐落于黄埔江畔鳞次栉比的高楼之间，设有一个两千五百人座的大剧院，四个排练厅，一个表演空间，将成为上海前滩的地标性文化建筑之一。

Situated along the bank of the Huangpu River amongst a cluster of shiny new skyscrapers, New Bund 31 Performing Arts Center houses a main theater of 2,500 seats, 4 rehearsal rooms, and a performance space, well positioned to become an architectural landmark and cultural destination for the community.

大田秀则画廊，上海

Ota Fine Arts, Shanghai

大田秀则画廊上海新址落户于洛克外滩源。如恩受邀在这个历史与现代相互交融的城市语境下，改造安仁大楼一层的画廊空间。

Ota Fine Arts' new space in Shanghai is located at Rockbund, a successful redevelopment area with a blend of historic and new buildings. Neri&Hu steps in to rehaul the space on the ground floor of a new mixed-use tower.

蓝瓶咖啡上海浦东机场T2航站楼店，上海

Blue Bottle Coffee PVG T2, Shanghai

相较于机场内的来去匆忙、机舱内的飞行旅途，蓝瓶门店的设计以“锚”为设计灵感，勾勒出宁静而雅致的巨石。停靠在这个驿站空间，慢下来，喝杯咖啡，作为调节时差、飞向未知的仪式，抵御了机场环境中原有的纷乱本质。

In contrast to the typology of movement and the ephemeral state of flying commonly associated with airports, the design of Blue Bottle Coffee takes the "anchor" as the design inspiration, outlining a tranquil monolith. Coffee, as a way to stabilize jet lag and movement, counters the nature of transience in an airport setting.

集絲坊零售空间，上海

Jisifang Retail Stores, Shanghai

时隔四年，如恩再次与集絲坊合作，为其设计位于上海蟠龙天地的新生活方式空间。两个毗邻的空间隔径相望：一座原始的木结构屋舍，一座洞穴般的混凝土庇护所，对建筑原型致敬的同时，又与周围自然互为风景，回归本源。

Neri&Hu is invited to design Jisifang's two new stores in Urban Retreat, one of Shanghai's most popular recreational&retail destinations. Neri&Hu harkens back to the notion of "primitive hut" with a woonden structure and a concrete shelter, showcasing craftsmanship, materiality, and a natural sensibility.

2023年4月米兰设计周期间，如恩为知名品牌Dior Prestige、Moorgen及Wittmann所设计的新系列产品正式发布。除此以外，如恩为Ariake有明设计的Umu系列荣获2023年EDIDA国际设计大奖床具设计冠军。

In April 2023, Neri&Hu's new series of products designed for well-known brands Dior Prestige, Moorgen and Wittmann were launched during Milan Design Week 2023. The Umu Collection designed by Neri&Hu for Ariake was selected as the 2023 winner in the Bedding category of EDIDA – ELLE DECO International Design Awards.

如恩为Ariake有明设计的卧室系列家具“有無”，灵感来自中国传统美学哲学概念——虚实相生。有無的设计提出了一种框架结构，联结不同的组件，将床本身与床边所需要的功能整合到一起。

"Umu" in Japanese kanji means to exist and not to exist. This bedroom collection for Ariake is inspired by the Chinese aesthetic philosophy of "xu shi xiang sheng". The bed design is composed of a utilitarian structural frame that then accommodates various attachments and accessories.

Baton，Wittmann

Baton系列的设计灵感来源于维也纳分离派。Baton系列的置衣架和桌案都由三个部分组成，就像建筑中的古典柱式一样——柱基、柱身和柱帽。

Referring to the formation of the Vienna Secession in 1897, this collection is inspired by the zeitgeist at the time. This series of coat hangers and small tables are each composed of three parts, which are each further defined in a tripartite format—base, body and head—not unlike a classical column.

如恩借鉴了药箱提供个性化护理和恢复性治疗的初衷，重新诠释为当代生活方式。低调而静谧的材料——丝质布料和温暖的木材，配以精致的铜制细节。合起来的“奁”如同药箱，可以手提也可以放置于平面之上，打开后露出镜子，变成妆奁。

Neri&Hu draws upon the yao xiang's original purpose of delivering individualized care and restorative treatment but reinterprets it for the contemporary lifestyle. Materials like silk and warm wood are highlighted with exquisite bronze details. The chest can be neatly closed and carried by its handle, or it can be situated and opened to reveal two mirrors that transform the box into a small vanity table.

控制面板在现代家庭生活中担任着重要的功能性作用。如恩从墙壁瓷砖的排布中获得灵感，将方形与矩形组合，并赋予每个模块特定的功能，形成一个简约大方的面板。

Considering the vital role of a control panel in a home, it should be considered as an integral part of its setting, cohesively integrated into the wall, rather than just an add-on element. Inspired by tile patterns on a wall, this system utilizes various sized squares or rectangles, each with a specific function, that can all tile together to form a neat panel.

2023年，如恩设计研究室创始合伙人胡如珊被任命为美国宾夕法尼亚大学斯图尔特·⻙茨曼设计学院建筑系系主任。创始合伙人郭锡恩也同时受邀担任普林斯顿大学建筑学院客座教授，并于2024年春季起正式任教。

Neri&Hu's Founding Partner Rossana Hu was named as Chair of the Department of Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania Stuart Weitzman School of Design in 2023, while Founding Partner Lyndon Neri was invited to teach at Princeton University School of Architecture as Visiting Professor, effective spring semester 2024.

如恩在开展建筑设计实践的同时积极活跃在教育研究领域。2023年，如恩两位创始人参与世界各地不同学术机构及设计盛会所举办的讲座及研讨会活动，其中包括普林斯顿大学建筑学院讲座、康奈尔大学建筑、艺术与规划学院秋季系列讲座、达姆施塔特工业大学系列讲座、华盛顿国家建筑博物馆主题演讲、《建筑实录》创意研讨会、《帕米欧精神》研讨会、以及由瑞士联邦文化局、联合国教科文组织与世界经济论坛主办的达沃斯建造文化联盟会议等。

Alongside a series of architectural practice, Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu are also actively involved in education and research fields, including lectures at Princeton University School of Architecture, Cornell University College of Architecture, Art, and Planning, Technische Universität Darmstadt, and keynote presentations at the National Building Museum in Washington D.C., Architectural Record Innovation Conference, Spirit of Paimio Conference, Davos Baukultur Alliance kick-off meeting hosted by Swiss Federal Office of Culture, UNESCO, and the World Economic Forum, and among others.

第十八届威尼斯建筑双年展

The 18th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia

如恩受邀参加由莱斯利·洛克（Lesley Lokko）策划的第十八届威尼斯建筑双年展主题展《未来实验室》的“危险关系”（Dangerous Liaisons）单元，在主场馆军械库（Arsenale）与参观者见面。如恩在此次展览中，以“阈境”（liminality）为题，试图将介于设计实践与理论探索中的“阈限空间”具象化呈现在参观者眼前。

Neri&Hu presents Liminality, a multimedia exhibition in the Dangerous Liaisons section of the 18th International Architecture Exhibition of the La Biennale di Venezia at the Arsenale. The thoughtful exhibit was selected by exhibition curator, Lesley Lokko, as part of The Laboratory of the Future. In response to Lokko's curatorial statement, Neri&Hu investigated and addressed the brief with an installation rooted in the concept of liminality.

2023年11月，郭锡恩与胡如珊联合策划了跨学科设计盛会——设计庆典，邀请九位全球知名设计师亲临现场，与大家分享他们的设计实践和议题思考：Anders Byriel，Shay Alkalay，Boonserm Premthada，Mark Lee，柳亦春，Jo Nagasaka 长坂常，Simon Frommenwiler以及Ricardo Flores & Eva Prats。

Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu co-curated Festival of Design 2023, an interdisciplinary design platform organized by Design Republic since 2016, unveiling an exceptional lineup of keynote speakers to share their design practices and philosophy in Shanghai: Anders Byriel, Shay Alkalay, Boonserm Premthada, Mark Lee, Liu Yichun, Jo Nagasaka, Simon Frommenwiler, and Ricardo Flores & Eva Prats.

Neri&Hu 20: Pairings, Urban Environment Design (UED)

《城市环境设计》(UED) 创刊于2004年，由天津大学建筑学院、辽宁科学技术出版社主办。在2023年4月如恩特刊中，如恩将项目以两两组合的方式呈现，以此帮助读者深入理解如恩多年来所探究的设计议题。除精选的三十多个设计项目外，另有如恩创始合伙人郭锡恩与胡如珊的专访，以及萨拉·M.萨汀（Sarah M. Whiting）的评论文章。

Established in 2004, UED Journal was founded by Tianjin University School of Architecture and Liaoning Science and Technology Publishing House. In 2023 April issue, Neri&Hu presents more than thirty design projects by pairing, to discuss the notions that Neri&Hu has been dealing with for the past few years. This special issue also includes exclusive interviews with Founding Partners Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu, as well as an essay by Sarah M. Whiting.

The Intimacy of Neglect, Architectural Design Journal

成立于1930年的《建筑设计期刊》（AD）每一期都会邀请一位国际行业专家担任客座编辑。Agostino De Rosa（威尼斯大学教授）、Alessio Bortot（威尼斯大学研究员）和Francesco Bergamo（威尼斯大学研究员）邀请郭锡恩与胡如珊以“赞美半影”为题，为2023年7/8月刊提笔抒文，带领读者穿越于光与影的间质空间。

Founded in 1930, Architectural Design (AD) is an influential and prestigious bi-monthly publication. Each title of AD is edited by an invited guest-editor, who is an international expert in their field. Guest-edited by Agostino De Rosa (Professor, Università Iuav di Venezia), Alessio Bortot (Research Fellow, Università Iuav di Venezia) and Francesco Bergamo (Research Fellow, Università Iuav di Venezia) invited Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu to contribute an essay entitled In Praise of Penumbr for 2023 Jul/Aug issue to navigate through the intermediate space between light and shadow.
